William Robert Farrar, Sr., 78, of Mechanicsville, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville. He was the husband of Faye Wilson Farrar.

Born March 4, 1935 in Radford, VA, he was the son of the late James Duvall Farrar, Sr. and the late Dorothy Turner Farrar. Mr. Farrar was a native of Lynchburg, where he attended and graduated from E.C. Glass High School (1953). He then attended the University of Richmond and Virginia Polytechnic Institute. William Robert Farrar, Sr., 78, of Mechanicsville, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville. He was the husband of Faye Wilson Farrar.

Born March 4, 1935 in Radford, VA, he was the son of the late James Duvall Farrar, Sr. and the late Dorothy Turner Farrar. Mr. Farrar was a native of Lynchburg, where he attended and graduated from E.C. Glass High School (1953). He then attended the University of Richmond and Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Mr. Farrar was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War. He worked for most of his professional career as an industrial engineer at McVeigh Corporation, C.B. Fleet Company and Wexco Corporation, all in Lynchburg. Mr. Farrar worked in semi-retirement in a number of pursuits in the Richmond area. He was a devoted family man, lifelong automobile enthusiast and repairer, creative problem-solver, amateur craftsman, home improvement addict, patient fisherman, grammar critic, dog lover, restless spirit, incurable sentimentalist and gifted story teller.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Farrar is survived by one daughter, Jean F. Hughes and husband James; one son, William R. Farrar, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Brittany; two brothers, James Duvall Farrar, Jr. and John Calvin Farrar and one sister, Anne Marie Farrar; five grandchildren, Lindsey Hughes Prather, James Alexander Hughes, heather Ashley Farrar, Alexander Carson Farrar, William Robert Farrar, III and Samuel Chester Farrar.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Spring Hill Cemetery with the Rev. David Heerspink officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
