Frederick "Fred" Edward Spangler, 81, of Huddleston, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the Bedford County Nursing Home. He was the husband of Ann Booth Spangler for fifty-five years.
Born October 25, 1934 in Roanoke, he was the son of the late James S. Spangler and Viola Pauley Spangler and was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred S. Greer and a brother, Samuel Spangler. Mr. Spangler was a graduate of Danville Technical Institute and was employed by General Electric for thirty years, Ericsson for ten years and Ma-Com as a Manager...

Frederick "Fred" Edward Spangler, 81, of Huddleston, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the Bedford County Nursing Home. He was the husband of Ann Booth Spangler for fifty-five years.
Born October 25, 1934 in Roanoke, he was the son of the late James S. Spangler and Viola Pauley Spangler and was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred S. Greer and a brother, Samuel Spangler. Mr. Spangler was a graduate of Danville Technical Institute and was employed by General Electric for thirty years, Ericsson for ten years and Ma-Com as a Manager and System Engineer. He was a member of the G.E. Elfun Society.
Fred's hobbies included racquet ball, tennis, handball, and golf. He enjoyed playing Bridge and was a member of the ACBL. Mr. Spangler was a former Deacon at Covenant Presbyterian Church and was a Past President of Heritage High School Choir Boosters. He was a member of Trinity Ecumenical Parish in Moneta.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Spangler is survived by two daughters, Tracy Spangler Moon and husband Norman of Lynchburg and Karen Spangler Martin of Glen Allen; a brother, Gordon Spangler and wife Janet of Kingsport, TN; a sister, Nancy Mae Perdue of Vinton and four grandchildren, Meghan and Olivia Martin and Sydney and Trey Moon.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Phillip Bouknight officiating.
Following the service, a reception will be held at the home of his daughter, Tracy.
