Elmer Laughlin Wilson, 75, of Evington, joined the Lord on Monday, November 28, 2016, while in the care of Lynchburg General Hospital with family and clergy attending bedside. Born on February 18, 1941, in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Hillary and Ruby Wilson of Bedford.

Elmer was a successful entrepreneur and businessman, and he always did things his way. He extended great generosity to his family, friends, and the occasional stranger. Elmer influenced the lives of all around him through innovative thought, hard work, and the best of intentions....

Elmer Laughlin Wilson, 75, of Evington, joined the Lord on Monday, November 28, 2016, while in the care of Lynchburg General Hospital with family and clergy attending bedside. Born on February 18, 1941, in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Hillary and Ruby Wilson of Bedford.

Elmer was a successful entrepreneur and businessman, and he always did things his way. He extended great generosity to his family, friends, and the occasional stranger. Elmer influenced the lives of all around him through innovative thought, hard work, and the best of intentions. He had proclaimed his faith in Christ and served shortly as a missionary in Russia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers, all of Bedford, Hugh Wilson, Charles L. Wilson, Joyce Owens, Sandra Harris, Jean Newman and Marion Wilson; and his beloved dog, Goldie.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Peggy Joyce Wilson of Evington; son, Darrin Scott Wilson of Forest; two daughters, Sherry Lynn Terrell of Madison Heights and Kimberly Kay Ackerman and husband Mark of Evington; two grandchildren, Morgan Ackerman Valois and husband Patrick of Evington and Geoffery Bryant of Lynchburg; one great grandchild; eldest brother, Frank Wilson of Roanoke; father-in-law, Gordon Dyer and wife Maureen of Battlecreek, Michigan; and three beloved cats, Kitty, Lukie, and Daisy.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with Rev. Bill Burleigh officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, starting at 1 p.m.
