Clyde Wade Brooks, Sr., 92, of Lynchburg passed away Monday, August 28, 2017, at his residence. He was the husband of Frances Knowles Brooks for 73 years. Born April 22, 1925, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Oscar Brooks and the late Mamie Smith Brooks.

Clyde was a retired foreman for Griffin Pipe Company, where he served for 30 years. He was a long time member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church, and he served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his retirement, Clyde traveled extensively spending the...

Clyde Wade Brooks, Sr., 92, of Lynchburg passed away Monday, August 28, 2017, at his residence. He was the husband of Frances Knowles Brooks for 73 years. Born April 22, 1925, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Oscar Brooks and the late Mamie Smith Brooks.

Clyde was a retired foreman for Griffin Pipe Company, where he served for 30 years. He was a long time member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church, and he served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his retirement, Clyde traveled extensively spending the winters in Zephyrhills, FL for 24 years.

In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by three sisters, Juanita B. Moyer, Alma B. Woody and Doris B. Oglesby.

In addition to his wife, Clyde is survived by two daughters, Beverly B. Ranson (Charlie) and Carol B. Mayberry (Mickey); three sons, C.W. Brooks, Jr. (Doranda), Clifton K. Brooks and Clayton A. Brooks (Janie); twelve grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Pastor John Sines officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16.

There will be no formal visitation hours at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Home.
